Daughter of Smoke & Bone: Gives Me Papilio Stomachus
SYNOPSIS
In general, Karou has managed to keep her two lives in balance. On the one hand, she's a seventeen-year-old art student in Prague; on the other, errand-girl to a monstrous creature who is the closest thing she has to family.
Raised half in our world, half in 'Elsewhere', she has never understood Brimstone's dark work - buying teeth from hunters and murderers - nor how she came into his keeping. She is a secret even to herself, plagued by the sensation that she isn't whole. Now the doors to Elsewhere are closing, and Karou must choose between the safety of her human life and the dangers of a war-ravaged world that may hold the answers she has always sought.

MILANA'S REVIEW
Poetry is the language of love. Poetry is calming and brings to the surface emotions you didn't know resided within you. Laini Taylor is a goddess of poetry.
I first read Daughter of Smoke & Bone about 7 years ago and fell in love with the world. I was so enthralled by it I could barely think about other books! Time passed and I never forgot the story of Karou & Akiva and then suddenly Laini announces her next series Strange The Dreamer and I'm catapulted back to the need, the need to read her poetic language again.
Reading a book you've already read in the past is something I rarely did before and it's such a wonderful experience. Knowing what happens and being able to let the words flow through you is a big part of reading that I've completely missed!
If you're a fan of myths, angels, demons, chimera, Prague, poetic language and beautiful descriptions, or writing that is imaginative as Neil Gaimans' then Daughter of Smoke & Bone should be your next read. I can't decide if I'm more in love with the story or the descriptions or the poetry. All of it! It's perfect!
Keep in mind this is a young adult fantasy novel so it's a bit different than regular adult fantasy. I whole heartedly give it 5 beautiful stars and urge you to read it if it's something you think you'll love.
