Vengeance Road: An Audiobook Review

SYNOPSIS

Revenge is worth its weight in gold. When her father is murdered for a journal revealing the location of a hidden gold mine, eighteen-year-old Kate Thompson disguises herself as a boy and takes to the gritty plains looking for answers—and justice.

What she finds are untrustworthy strangers, endless dust and heat, and a surprising band of allies, among them a young Apache girl and a pair of stubborn brothers who refuse to quit riding in her shadow.

But as Kate gets closer to the secrets about her family, a startling truth becomes clear: some men will stop at nothing to get their hands on gold, and Kate’s quest for revenge may prove fatal.

MILANA'S REVIEW

You know you have a good book in your hands when you go to rate it and even the one thing that wasn't your favourite doesn't hinder you from rating it 5 stars. This was such a good read! I ended up listening to half of it on audio and then read the other half!

This is the first western I've ever read and I have realized that I dislike western drawls. The accent stays in my head and drives me nuts, but that's just my anxiety talking. This book was fantastic! I really loved Kate's character, she was strong and clever. The audiobook was awesome and the voice actor did such a good job! The story moved at such a good pace at no point was I bored or tired.

If you've watched any westerns you'll be thrust back into High Noon, Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid, True Grit, etc with a YA flair. Apparently Alex is also in a western mood as he's watching Hell On Wheels which just makes me want the sequel to Vengeance Road, Retribution Rails, to get here faster.

Big thanks to Ali over at The Bandar Blog for recommending this one! I am quiet pleased and surprised at how much I loved this book! And I mean, just look at that AWESOME cover.
