The Young Elites: An Unpopular Opinion Series Review
SYNOPSIS
Adelina Amouteru is a survivor of the blood fever. A decade ago, the deadly illness swept through her nation. Most of the infected perished, while many of the children who survived were left with strange markings. But some of the fever’s survivors are rumored to possess more than just scars—they are believed to have mysterious and powerful gifts, and though their identities remain secret, they have come to be called the Young Elites. Teren Santoro works for the king. As Leader of the Inquisition Axis, it is his job to seek out the Young Elites, to destroy them before they destroy the nation. He believes the Young Elites to be dangerous and vengeful, but it’s Teren who may possess the darkest secret of all. Enzo Valenciano is a member of the Dagger Society. This secret sect of Young Elites seeks out others like them before the Inquisition Axis can. But when the Daggers find Adelina, they discover someone with powers like they’ve never seen. Adelina wants to believe Enzo is on her side, and that Teren is the true enemy. But the lives of these three will collide in unexpected ways, as each fights a very different and personal battle. But of one thing they are all certain: Adelina has abilities that shouldn’t belong in this world. A vengeful blackness in her heart. And a desire to destroy all who dare to cross her.

MILANA'S REVIEW
I waited to review the three books (The Young Elites, The Rose Society & The Midnight Star) after I had read/listened to all three because I just was not blown away. I was so excited to read a book that had an anti-hero as it’s main character but I just couldn’t connect with her. I found her very whiny, annoying and she had zero redeeming qualities to me. And so I knew that continuing further would be difficult.
Book One – The Young Elites
I had hope while reading this one. I loved the back story to the sisters and the whole idea of a society that mimics the X-Men society. I needed more world building, more character development and less inner angst from the main character. Overall, I did find it somewhat enjoyable and wanted to see what happens next.
Book Two – The Rose Society
This one was set mostly on the water and because of personal preference I could not get on board if you will. I dislike books set on water. I just find authors focus more on the shape of the waves and the boats themselves than on plot developments. It drives me insane. All I want is for them to run and yet they cannot because they’re stuck on a boat! So frustrating! This is entirely my own pet peeve and so I am unable to fully comment on the developments of this one but overall, I did not enjoy it.
Book Three – The Midnight Star
Okay, so we’re almost there. This is the last book! I tell myself just open your mind and give it a try! So I did, I listened to the audio to see if I could connect with the story more but I probably should have just DNF’d this series. I was beyond frustrated with our main star again. She just drove me insane. The only thing I liked about this book was the end. I was happy with the way it ended because I felt like it needed to end that way.
So unfortunate that I spent the time on these books. Everyone raves about Marie Lu’s writing but it didn’t do it for me. Overall I’d rate these as a 3/5. But take my review with a grain of salt because A LOT of people love these books and you should give them a try! After all, they are bestsellers!
